4th of July is the major holiday in our neighborhood. The epicenter for America action is about three blocks from our house - streets are closed off for a parade, neighbors host huge parties on their front lawns and fireworks, which are legal to set off in Sacramento County during 4th of July, go off all day.
We decorated the wagon and joined the crowd for the East Sacramento parade, billed as the oldest parade west of the Mississippi. I seriously read that once! Our parade isn't floats and old cars but rather hundreds of kids, their parents and many dogs walking a few streets with decked out strollers, wagons, bikes, trikes, scooters, skates.
Harrison loved the whole scene and especially enjoyed cruising in the wagon. He claps his hands and smiles every time he gets in the wagon! He lasted for about half an hour before completely crashing and making his way home in his mom's arms. Thank goodness it was only marginally hot and hadn't reached the triple digits yet!
I am so excited that we started a new tradition and Harrison has helped usher in a new era of 4th of July celebrations. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of walking in the Claremont parade with my cousins and spending the entire day with my mom and aunts and uncles as they caught up with old friends...exactly as Matt and his friends do in Sacramento, making their way around town, popping over to one another's bbqs and cruising around. Can't wait for next year!
